You can run anywhere you damn well like… but for newbies to Darwin the apprehension to do so is understandable.
Today I could not resist, I live on Cavenagh street and decided to walk over to Smith St and began running towards the coast.
At myilly point there is a walkway that descends all the way to the beach where it eventually leads you to the back of the casino. If you follow the coast it will eventually lead you to Fannie Bay. Now for a daily run, you probably don’t want to go all the way to Fannie Bay as it can be quite far. I stopped at the ski club which is simply half way between Fannie Bay and Cullen Bay and simply turned around and headed back into Darwin. The route back I took was through the botanic gardens.
All in all, not a bad run, a bit of city, a bit of the coast, a bit of wildlife (i saw a large ground bird, not sure what it was) and a bit of fauna. I didn’t run all the way, because I wasn’t always sure where I was going. I think I would have covered around 10kms. A map of my route is shown below –
